Through a student-centered approach, Next Up NYC offers critical insight into how students in historically marginalized communities experience and understand postsecondary access in New York City.
“My school is filled with eager seniors ready to tackle college applications. However, when you have 150 high school seniors and 3 college advisors, getting help is impossible. I can never find a time when my advisor is available, making it challenging to apply since my advisor is booked 24/7.”
“My experience with post-high school is through the program called SEO scholars, which I’m certainly in. SEO is an eight-year program that offers students with the resources and assistance they need to get into and through college. SEO not only teaches me new things in both English and Math, but it also provides us with firsthand experiences. Students take college trips to visit various colleges and see different campuses. SEO is my gateway to college.”
“My school is fortunate enough to provide us with various career readiness resources and programs. I joined a financial and investment literacy program designed to allow high school girls to explore finance careers. Although I'm no longer interested in a finance career, it was amazing that my school granted me the opportunity to explore a potential career.”
