Next Up NYC is a place-based campaign by Student Voice and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Next Up NYC is a by-students, for-students storytelling campaign around college and career opportunities for young people in New York City.
In New York City public schools, recent growth in high school graduation and college enrollment rates has opened up new postsecondary pathways for many students. However, deep inequities in postsecondary access within New York City public schools continue to persist. Particularly, low-income and Black and Latino students’ postsecondary options remain limited by existing educational systems and opportunities. Through a student-centered approach, Next Up NYC offers critical insight into how students in historically marginalized communities experience and understand postsecondary access in New York City. Next Up NYC believes that elevating the experiences of students transitioning from New York City public schools to postsecondary options presents a critical opportunity to understand why inequities for marginalized students persist. Through following the stories of young people, Next Up NYC aims to advance solutions that actually serve educational systems’ primary stakeholders: students.
